Candy Cane Trivia

This traditional Chrismtas treat has some very sensible beginnings. It's believed that candy canes may have originated in the Middle Ages when an inventive Choirmaster was looking for a way to keep the children in the choir quiet during the church services. Over the years they became more widely known in Europe and were brought to North America by settlers. They then became an ornament when Christmas trees gained in popularity. What many don't know is that candy canes were always pure white because of the difficulty in hand painting on the colours until the 1920's. A small confectioner in Albany, Georgia found a way to hand twist colours into the candy stick we know and love today.
