Old Fashioned Peanut Brittle

Make a batch of this economical candy for a nice homemade gift. Place several pieces in clear cellophane bags (available at most "dollar stores"), tie with a pretty ribbon. Old Fashioned Peanut Brittle 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup corn syrup 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup water 1 cup shelled peanuts 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 1 teaspoon baking soda Butter the sides of a heavy saucepan or spray with a butter flavoured cooking spray. Combine sugar, salt, syrup and water in saucepan. Cook and stir until temperature reaches 300 degrees farenheit (or hard crack stage). Stir in peanuts and butter. Stir in baking soda. Quickly pour/spread on an ungreased cookie sheet. Cool at room temperature. Break into pieces. Store in a tightly covered container.
